Deploying Kubernetes in Production Environments
Adopting containers is key to modernizing your IT as it allows you to build high-quality, portable applications faster. However, setting up a production-ready Kubernetes environment from scratch can require months of repetitive work. Furthermore, manually scaling and managing your container clusters across different environments, locations, and teams brings numerous complexities to your Day 1 and Day 2 operations.
By integrating SUSE Rancher into our Bare Metal Cloud (BMC) platform, phoenixNAP lets you deploy server instances with multi-node Kubernetes management and workload clusters at scale in minutes. In a couple of clicks or a single POST request, BMC lets you deploy production-grade clusters from the core to the edge with centralized authentication, control, and observability of your deployments.

Tutorial
Deploying Rancher on Bare Metal Cloud
Deploying 3-node Kubernetes workload clusters alongside HA management cluster on phoenixNAP’s Bare Metal Cloud can be done in under 5 minutes. All you need to do is follow the steps.
You can further configure your cluster through advanced SUSE Rancher settings. This allows you to set access tokens, add certificates, set TLS settings and node taints, add an additional hostname, or schedule backup snapshots.
Create a BMC account and log into the BMC portal
Choose pre-configured node instances
Select your management/workload cluster location
Add previously generated SSH keys to your nodes
Name your clusters and add nodes to them

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Rancher on Bare Metal Cloud supports any certified Kubernetes distro, such as RKE for on-prem, EKS, AKS, or GKE for cloud, and K3S for edge workloads.
Once you create and validate your Bare Metal Cloud account, you can deploy a 3-node, geo-distributed Kubernetes cluster running on bare metal in about 5 minutes, using a single POST request.
Bare Metal Cloud is deployable with hourly billing or reservations of 1, 12, 24, or 36 months. Reservations on a monthly or yearly basis entitle you to discounts. All billing and usage information is easily trackable using the Bare Metal Cloud self-service portal.
You can deploy your Bare Metal Cloud instances with low-latency NVMe drives. However, these servers are also deployable with terabytes of all-flash network file storage or S3-compatible Object Storage, allowing for near-instant scalability.
While you can technically run Kubernetes in a virtualized environment, hosting your clusters on bare metal is a much better option for latency-sensitive, mission-critical workloads and microservices.
The platform offers over 50 different servers deployable across the U.S., Europe, and Asia-Pacific. You can see the available locations of all servers by visiting the Bare Metal Cloud portal and creating an account.
