What Are LAN Bridges?

A LAN bridge is a network interface that combines multiple other interfaces into a unified network with a single IP address. Bridges are used to connect two or more LANs with similar protocols into a larger network. Like switches, they operate at the Data Link layer (Layer 2) and filter packets based on the MAC address. A bridge can combine interfaces of various types, including physical, wireless, and aggregated interfaces.
