What Is a Static IP Address?

A static IP address is a permanent, fixed IP address that is assigned to a device on a network. Unlike a dynamic IP address, which can change each time the device connects to the network, a static IP address remains the same until it is manually changed.

A static IP address is often used for devices that need to be accessible via the Internet or other networks, such as servers or network printers. Because the IP address remains constant, other devices can reliably connect to the device using its IP address, rather than having to search for it each time.
